Owen Fender is a Bristol-based graphic designer and UI/UX specialist with a bold, creative approach to design and storytelling. With a distinctive visual style and a background in branding, digital interfaces, and editorial work, Owen needed a portfolio website that didn’t just showcase his projects, but became an extension of his design philosophy.
Project Details
From the start, this was one of our most creative and technically rewarding builds. Owen came to us with a set of high-concept, fully realised designs in Figma, complete with unconventional layout ideas and animation requirements. Our role was to bring it all to life in a fully bespoke website that could support a growing, evolving portfolio.
Content Management
Despite the bespoke design and custom coding, the back end of the site remains fully editable. Owen can easily create new project pages, assign them to categories, upload media, set colour values, and arrange card content using the system we implemented. The CMS is flexible but structured, allowing for visual freedom with a solid framework under the hood.
Design and Functionality
The site features a horizontal scrolling structure throughout, creating a unique browsing experience that immediately sets it apart. Each page, whether a landing page, category section or individual project, is designed to move sideways, echoing the feel of flipping through a design showcase or magazine.
The individual project pages were the real technical challenge: each one can display a custom group of media “cards” which may include images, videos or interactive slideshows. These components are all editable, and the layout engine we built lets Owen add, remove, or rearrange content blocks for each project with total creative freedom, without compromising design integrity.
Each project also comes with a customisable background colour field, giving Owen the ability to tailor the visual tone of every page. On project category pages (like UX/UI, Identity, Editorial) the background isn’t static: it loops through a slow, animated blend of all the background colours used in the projects within that category. The result is a dynamic, ever-shifting palette that feels alive and artist-led.
Outcome
Owen Fender’s portfolio site is a seamless blend of aesthetic expression and technical precision. It elevates his work while offering an engaging, tactile experience for visitors; designers, clients and collaborators alike. The result is not just a portfolio, but a showcase of Owen’s creative voice and a reflection of the digital-first world he designs for.
