We’ve included a lot of commonly asked questions here but it is by no means complete. What is the timescale for a new website?

It varies depending on the project. However, we aim to have something to show you within two weeks of starting. From there, the timescale may change depending on your feedback and if we’re waiting for any materials to be supplied by you (eg. copy, branding photography etc.)

Do you redesign existing websites?

Absolutely. While the aim is to update and freshen up your website design, it’s also important that it stays in line with your existing branding. That’s why, at the start of any project, we’ll ask you to supply us with examples of your other branding, such as any logos, business cards or branding guides that your company uses.

How much does a new website cost?

Our web design and development packages range from £450 for simple sites to £3,500 for more complex ones, with several tiered packages in between. We don’t provide quotes until we’ve had a chance to meet you (at least virtually over Zoom) and learn a bit about your business and what you’re hoping to achieve with a new website, so if you’d like a quote, please book a consultation.

Will I keep my site if I move to another agency?

Yes. Once your website is bought and paid for, it is yours. You’re free to migrate to a different hosting provider or agency to handle ongoing copy and marketing or do whatever you like with it.

If you’re on a payment plan with us, however, final payments will need to be made before the site can be moved elsewhere.

What are the Payment Terms

We split the cost into 12 monthly payments for most of our clients, to help spread the cost. However, we also offer a discount equivalent to VAT to clients who would prefer an up-front payment.

If you’re replacing an old website, how do you preserve the SEO?

The main issue that impacts SEO on upgrading to a new website is a change in link structure. Since Google and other search engines will already have indexed your pages, they’re likely to penalise you if those links suddenly start sending their users to 404 pages. For this reason, it’s important to take a complete sitemap of your old website and its indexed pages, and make sure that the URLs are either maintained or redirects are set up, so that users are taken to corresponding pages on the new website when they visit the old links. This is something we go to great lengths to do so that your SEO isn’t impacted when we go live with a new site.

Can I update the website myself once it’s built?

Yes. We provide WordPress training with every website we build so that you’ll be able to add pages, add articles and make ongoing changes to the website yourself.

Does my site need to be updated to HTTPS instead of HTTP?

Yes it does. You should not be using an unprotected, http address. Websites nearly always capture and process some data these days and that transfer needs to be encrypted to protect both you and your customers. Particularly if you’re handling customer data, as with most ecommerce websites, where customers may need to enter shipping addresses and card details, having an https is absolutely necessary.

What if I don’t want to manage the website at all. Can you do it all for me?

Yes. We offer retainer packages, so you can pre-purchase a number of hours every month for a reduced rate. This way you can ask us to add updates or make changes on an ongoing basis without worrying about surprise costs.

Will you provide ongoing help with our new site?

Yes. We not only host your website but provide maintenance packages to keep software up to date and secure, which includes a guarantee that if your site is hacked or breaks for whatever reason, we’ll recover, repair or replace it for you.

What size companies do you work with?

Typically, small to medium sized businesses. Our largest current client has about 40 staff or so but we also service one person bands and small start ups.

Will my website work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Your website will adapt to different screen sizes, including responsive menus, changing columns and, in some cases, altered functionality to better suit touch screens.

Can you help me rank higher in Google?

We offer a lot of services that will certainly help to improve your SEO, including keyword research, optimised content and consulting. Our focus on speed and WCAG accessibility is also beneficial for search results. However, we do not offer broad “SEO Packages” per se, as we feel this is a rather nebulous and unaccountable way to package things.

Can you help with my social media?

Unfortunately not. We don’t provide social media management or social ads as a service. However, we do work with partners to supply this for some of our clients, and can assist in getting a quote and supporting their efforts from the web development and website content side of things.

Do you only create WordPress websites?

Predominantly, yes. We can work with and host other systems like Joomla and Drupal – under the hood, these things are not hugely dissimilar – and there is occasionally a need for something more bespoke for some, much larger projects. However, for 99% of all new websites, we would use WordPress. This is mainly because of how popular and widely supported it is. Not only does this give us a vast ecosystem of existing development work to draw on, it also makes things far easier for our clients in the long run.

Can you help me write content for my website?

Yes. We provide web content and can also supply you with valuable market research, content planning and consultation for writing your own.

What will you need from me?

We will ask you to fill out a website requirements form. This will gather some useful information that will help to steer the project. For ecommerce sites, we’ll ask you for product data (prices, SKU codes if necessary, images etc.). We may need access to your old website, if we’re building a replacement, for the sake of transferring customer/order information to the new system.

Do I have to be local to work with you?

No. While it’s nice to meet our customers in person, and we always try to where practical, we are able to perform all of our work remotely and conduct any meetings over Zoom. We also use data centres in both Europe and the United States to provide our hosting packages.

What is Your Process?

First, we’ll have a chat to learn about your business and what you’re looking to achieve with your new website. It normally takes about an hour. We want to learn about your business so we can find out how the new website, and any other services we’re providing for you, can best fit into and enhance your wider marketing strategies and objectives. Quotation – within two days

Based on our conversation, we’ll put together a detailed proposal, outlining what we’ll do for you and how. This will include some things that we might need from you to complete the project, such as copy or product data.

Website Detail Form

Once the proposal is agreed, we’ll send over a short form to collect some extra, fine details on what you’d like to include on the website. For example, contact details you’d like to have prominence.

Establishing Content

Whether we’re writing the copy for you or you’re supplying it to us, we’ll gather it together, ready to use for the website.

Development Phase

We will develop a fully-functional, responsive WordPress website based on the above direction and the specifications outlined in this proposal.

Amendments Round

We’ll submit the initial draft of the website to you and ask for any feedback and changes. There are usually some adjustments to make and we don’t put a limit on the number of changes you can have within the project scope, however we do need them all to be compiled into one document and signed off on. We’ll organise a meeting to go through the website and help with getting the required changes in order.

WordPress Training

We will provide an hour and a half of WordPress training for up to 3 people in a session, empowering you to manage basic changes to the website yourself, if you want to. This is also an opportunity to make any additional tweaks or changes to the site, on top of the amendments round.

Go Live!

Once the amendments are completed and you’re happy with everything, we’ll make the site live on your chosen domain and hosting package, do some optimisation to make it faster and go through a checklist of other things, such as setting up Google Analytics, submitting a sitemap to Google, testing contact forms etc. Once we’ve completed our checks, you’re up and running!
